Lat Pulldown
lat-pulldown
Zwróć uwagę na
- avoid · Rotator cuff tear — Pulling the bar too low forces the shoulders into internal rotation, straining a torn rotator cuff. Instead, use a seated cable row with a neutral grip to load the back safely.
- caution · Uncontrolled hypertension — Deep belly bracing and breath-holding during heavy pulls can spike blood pressure dangerously. Instead, perform light machine rows with continuous breathing to train the back without excessive intra-abdominal pressure.
- caution · Shoulder impingement — Overhead reaching and internal rotation at the bottom can pinch impinged shoulder structures. Instead, perform neutral-grip cable rows to train the back without overhead arm elevation.
A vertical pull from a high cable that takes the lats from a full overhead stretch to a hard contraction at the upper chest, with none of the balance or grip demand of a pull-up. The wide straight handle gives the biggest arc across the upper back; a narrow neutral handle trades some of that width for more elbow travel and is kinder to cranky shoulders — the machine sets the path either way. Reach for it when you cannot yet hang from a bar, when you want the back loaded through a fixed groove, or on a day your grip is already spent.

Focus first on connecting your mind to your back rather than chasing heavy weight. Start light and practice pulling your shoulder blades down before you even bend your elbows. If your arms fatigue before your back does, lighten the load and concentrate on driving your elbows toward your pockets. You should stop the set the moment your form breaks, your shoulders creep toward your ears, or you begin swinging your torso to generate momentum. True muscular failure here feels like a slow, burning inability to complete another clean rep, not a sudden joint strain. Watch for compensations like arching your lower back, shrugging your traps, or yanking the bar with your biceps. Keep a slight bend in your knees, brace your midsection, and let the machine guide your path. Consistent, controlled reps will teach your nervous system how to recruit the correct fibers, and that foundation will carry you safely into heavier loads.

Slow the lowering phase to three or four seconds, letting the lats lengthen fully under load before pausing for a beat at the top stretch. That brief hold eliminates momentum and forces your back to initiate every rep. Pull the bar down with intent, but avoid jerking it. The eight-to-twelve range builds muscle effectively; if you want to bias strength, drop to sets of five or six with heavier plates on the cable machine, adding weight only when every rep in your target range is clean. Once you can handle the full stack with strict form, progress to weighted pull-ups, which demand far more from your core and stabilisers. For variation, try a close neutral grip using a V-bar attachment, which shifts emphasis towards the lower lats and allows greater elbow travel, or use a slightly wider grip to increase the stretch across the upper back.
Typowe błędy
Most lifters compromise the lat pulldown by using excessive momentum, leaning back too far, and turning the movement into a seated row. This shifts tension away from the lats and places unnecessary stress on the lower back. Another frequent error is pulling the bar too low toward the belly button, which forces the shoulders into an internally rotated position and strains the rotator cuff. Many also shrug their shoulders upward during the descent or fail to fully extend their arms at the top, cutting the range of motion short. Finally, gripping the bar too tightly recruits the forearms prematurely, leaving the back underworked. Keep your grip relaxed, pull only to the upper chest, maintain a stable torso, and prioritize a full, controlled stretch at the top of every repetition.

- 1
Set the seat height so your thighs sit under the pad with your feet flat on the floor, and select a weight you can control for the whole set.
- 2
Sit and slide your thighs firmly under the knee rollers to anchor your lower body.
- 3
Reach overhead and take the handle with a wide overhand grip, hands just outside shoulder width.
- 4
Straighten your arms into the full stretch, then depress your shoulder blades down away from your ears before you bend your elbows.
- 5
Breathe into your belly, brace, and start the pull by driving your elbows toward your ribs.
- 6
Exhale steadily as you guide the handle down a vertical path to your upper chest, torso held still.
- 7
Pause at the bottom, squeeze the back, keep the chest lifted and the spine neutral.
- 8
Inhale as you resist the weight and return the handle to the full stretch under control.
- 9
Stop just short of the plates touching, reset the shoulders, and set up the next rep.
