Finger Extension Band Work
finger-extension-band-work
A resistance band looped around the fingertips, opened against tension by spreading the fingers. Trains the finger and wrist extensors — the muscles on the top of the forearm that open the hand. Most forearm training is flexion-dominant (gripping, curling, holding), which creates an imbalance that contributes to lateral epicondylitis and general forearm tightness. This is the corrective counterpart.

The band should be light enough that you can fully open all five fingers against it without shaking. If your fingers tremble or you cannot fully extend, the band is too heavy — wrap it once more around your hand or use a thinner band. This movement is subtle; the load is small and the muscles are small. That is the point.
ก้าวต่อไป
Slow the closing phase to three or four seconds; that eccentric is where the extensors do their most useful work. Pause for a full second at maximum spread before lowering, keeping the wrist completely still throughout. Sets of fifteen to twenty build endurance and protect the lateral elbow, but if you are rehabilitating tendon irritation, push towards twenty-five with a lighter band and shorter rest. Harder here means moving the loop closer to your fingertips to worsen the leverage, or stepping up to a thicker resistance band once twenty clean reps feel easy. When a thick band no longer challenges you at twenty reps with a controlled tempo, progress to extending the fingers against a heavier band while simultaneously spreading them wider apart, increasing both tension and range. For variation, isolate the ring and little fingers by looping the band only around those two digits, which targets the extensor digiti minimi more directly.
ข้อผิดพลาดที่พบบ่อย
Using a band so heavy that only two or three fingers contribute while the others compensate. This defeats the purpose — the goal is even extension across all five digits. Also: letting the wrist flex (curl inward) during the movement, which shifts load away from the finger extensors into the wrist flexors.

อุปกรณ์
- Resistance bands
- 1
Loop a light resistance band around the outside of all five fingertips on one hand, fingers held together.
- 2
Anchor the other end of the band under your foot or hold it with your other hand so there is light tension with your fingers closed.
- 3
Keeping your wrist neutral and steady, spread all five fingers apart against the band's resistance. Open fully — thumb away from the other four fingers.
- 4
Hold the open position for one second, then slowly close your fingers back together over two seconds against the band tension.
- 5
Complete all reps on one hand before switching.
